Overview
This eLearning will provide an update on the basics of blood borne viruses and how to complete a dry blood spot test. This programme must be completed by all pharmacists who are providing a blood borne virus testing service within a community pharmacy setting.

On completion of this programme you should be able to:

Know how to confidently approach individuals for blood borne virus testing

Interpret the results for blood borne viruses

Discuss the blood borne virus test results with patients and refer as appropriate

Recognise drug interactions with hepatitis C treatment.

Assess a patient’s suitability for hepatitis C treatment (taking into account liver disease and drug interactions)

Counsel patients starting on hepatitis C therapy
This programme should take about ONE hour to complete.
