Overview

The aim of this programme is to provide an overview of the management of acute coronary syndromes, thus equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to manage patients with this condition.

Learning outcomes

Having completed this programme you should be able to:

  • Differentiate between an acute myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and unstable angina
  • Identify the risk factors for each condition
  • Provide advice on managing these risk factors
  • Outline best practice for acute in-hospital management
  • Describe the evidence-based treatment of acute coronary syndromes
  • Evaluate the need for secondary prevention medication and the evidence base to support individual choices for individual patients
  • Define the role of cardiac rehabilitation and the role of the primary care team in patient education and support post-acute myocardial infarction
