Description
A patient group direction (PGD) is a written instruction for the supply and/or administration of a particular medicine to groups of patients. The aim of this e-learning programme is to support people and organisations who are considering developing, authorising and using PGDs to deliver NHS services, in line with legislation and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence Medicines Practice Guidelines 2 Patient Group Directions (NICE MPG2).
Learning Objectives
• Recognise whether a PGD is the most appropriate way to supply or administer medicine in a particular clinical situation by working with inter-professional colleagues.
• Use current legislation and guidelines to develop and implement PGD’s to ensure patients get timely access to safe and effective care
• Apply the appropriate competency frameworks and governance arrangements within your professional responsibility to develop, authorise, use, review or update a PGD
• Refer and contribute to the local practice collection on PGDs on the NICE website
