Overview

This distance learning pack looks at how a repeat dispensing service would work, documentation required and responsibilities of a pharmacist. This pack needs to be completed by all community pharmacists wishing to run a repeat dispensing service as part of the essential services in new contract.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this programme you should be able to:

  • Describe how the NHS Repeat Dispensing arrangements in Wales will operate
  • State at least two benefits for all those involved in repeat dispensing (patients, pharmacists, general practitioners and GP practice staff)
  • Explain why fully informed consent is needed
  • Identify the key local contact(s) for repeat dispensing
  • List two protocols for good practice in relation to repeat dispensing
  • Outline the factors to be considered when writing a Standard Operating Procedure
  • List two web sites where further information about repeat dispensing can be found
