Overview
This course is intended to provide an introduction to the main safety considerations associated with the identification and monitoring of potential side effects of thiazide diuretics. It does not cover treatment of adverse side effects.
Learning Objectives
After completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Discuss the principles of thiazide diuretic therapy and associated electrolyte abnormalities.
- Identify adverse drug reactions of thiazide therapy, in particular diuretic induced hyponatremia and hypokalaemia.
- Describe potential strategies to reduce adverse drug reactions including those resulting in hospital admissions.
