Overview
The aim of this programme is to raise awareness of the harmful effects of the sun on the skin and to enable the pharmacy team to actively promote skin cancer awareness
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you should be able to:
- Describe the structure and functions of the skin
- Define the common skin cancers in terms of pathophysiology, aetiology and epidemiology
- Recognise potential skin abnormalities
- Identify the major risk factors for development of skin cancer and discuss appropriate skin protection methods
- Understand how to use risk assessment tools for effective interventions to refer / signpost patients to other healthcare professionals
- Provide appropriate advice with regards to sun protection to support the Public Health Wales ‘Here comes the Sun’ campaign for Summer 2014
