HEIW Pharmacy have created a resource and forum page to support provisionally registered pharmacists working in any pharmacy sector in Wales AND/OR those living in Wales working towards registration, during the period August 2020- July 2021.

We know that due to the covid-19 pandemic, there have been many challenges faced by the pre-registration pharmacist cohort of 2019-2020 and therefore we understand that provisional registrants will need support during this period in order to increase competence and feel confident in transitioning into their new role, as novice pharmacist practitioner’s.

The resources which we have provided and sign-posted you to, have been developed to support you to identify and meet your personal learning needs. We would encourage you to share these with your employers and senior pharmacists, as part of the risk-assessment process and during your monthly meetings (see GPhC guidance documents).

The resources listed are comprehensive and not all will be necessary or appropriate for each person. They contain a mixture of online, self-directed learning, as well as ‘virtual live’ CPD events. They are intended to be used as reference sources during daily practice and to support continuing pre-registration assessment preparation. We would encourage the resources to be used for the continuation of evidence gathering, through the development of a personal portfolio and for meeting the GPhC revalidation requirements. We recommend using the RPS provisional registration ePortfolio or one which is provided by your employer or another education provider, if undertaking a formal training programme e.g. clinical diploma.

It is important that you have read all the appropriate local policies, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Patient Group Directions (PGDs), which link to the processes and services you will be undertaking within your role and complete any specific organisational inductions.

As a provisionally registered pharmacist, you should follow the GPhC standards for pharmacy professionals and use your professional judgement, be aware of your limitations and make appropriate referrals, and only work within your scope of competency.

Although you will be having regular guidance and direction from a senior pharmacist, you are encouraged to seek other support from a mentor and through a peer network, during this period.
