HEIW Pharmacy have created a resource hub to support pharmacy professionals returning to practice during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We understand professionals returning to practice may need to complete some continuing professional development in order to be competent and confident in their roles. This resource has been developed to support pharmacy professionals to identify and meet their personal learning needs.

There is a ‘CORE resources,’ section which is applicable to all pharmacy sectors (Community, Hospital and Primary Care).  We have provided a self-assessment framework to enable you to ascertain core areas in which you may require additional support. There are also ‘SECTOR specific’ resources available. The resources listed are comprehensive and not all will be necessary or appropriate for each person. These are intended to be used as a reference source.

To support pharmacy professionals returning to practice and to help guide you through these resources, mentors are available. Please see the ‘further support section’ for more information on how to access this service.

It is also important that you have read all the appropriate local policies, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Patient Group Directions (PGDs) which link to the processes and services you will be undertaking.  Many pharmacy contractors and health boards have locum or rotation information packs available. These may also be a valuable resource.

It is essential that you check with the organisation you will be working for, that suitable indemnity insurance is in place. If not, you will need to make personal arrangements to cover yourself. As a registered pharmacy professional, you should use your professional judgement and only resume work within your scope of competency.

At the time of production this information was accurate. We will endeavour to keep it up to date but please be aware this may not always be possible as information and guidance’s are changing rapidly.

Please note for community pharmacists wishing to provide any of the three enhanced services during COVID-19 period: Emergency Contraception and/or Common Ailment Service and Emergency Medicines Supply Service, you will need to complete the mandatory RTP NESA 2020 accreditation resources.
