Mae hormonau'r chwarren thyroid yn rheoli metabolaeth y corff ac yn effeithio ar dwf a datblygiad, tra mae’r chwarennau parathyroid yn rheoli lefelau calsiwm. Gall nifer o anhwylderau effeithio ar weithrediad y chwarennau gan arwain at effeithiau anffafriol. Bydd y man ffocysu hwn yn canolbwyntio ar reoli'r anhwylderau hyn, gan gynnwys symptomau, profion ac ymyriadau meddygol ac anfeddygol.
 
Canlyniadau Dysgu:
 
Ar ôl yr achlysur hwn bydd y rhai sy’n mynychu yn gallu: 
 

  • Disgrifio prif nodweddion anhwylderau'r thyroid, gan gynnwys isthyroidedd, gorthyroidedd, goitr, nodiwlau thyroid a chanser y thyroid. Yn ogystal byddant yn gallu disgrifio nodweddion  parathyroid, gan gynnwys isbarthyroidedd a chanser y parathyroid.
  • Adnabod y ffactorau neu anhwylderau all gyfrannu at ddatblygiad a/neu barhad y cyflyrau hyn, gan gynnwys thyroiditis Hashimoto a chlefyd Grave.
  • Adnabod symptomau argyfyngus a phryd mae angen atgyfeirio ar gyfer ymchwiliad clinigol
  • Adolygu'r profion clinigol a ddefnyddir ar gyfer diagnosteg a chynllunio triniaeth
  • Archwilio'r gwahanol opsiynau rheoli ffarmacolegol gan gynnwys trefnau dosau, rhybuddion, gofynion monitro a sut i reoli sgil-effeithiau

Overview: 
 
The thyroid gland hormones regulate the body’s metabolism and affect growth and development, while the parathyroid glands regulate calcium levels. Several disorders can affect the function of the glands leading to adverse effects.  This focal point will concentrate on the management of these disorders, including, symptoms, testing and medical and non-medical interventions.
 
Learning outcomes:
 
After attending this event participants will be able to: 
 

  • Describe the main features of thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, goitre, thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer, and parathyroid disorders, including hypoparathyroidism, hyperparathyroidism and parathyroid cancer.
  • Identify the factors or disorders that may contribute to the development and/or continuation of these conditions, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Grave’s disease
  • Recognise red flag symptoms and when referral is necessary for clinical investigation
  • Review the clinical tests used for diagnostics and treatment planning
  • Explore the different pharmacological management options including, dosage regimens, cautions, monitoring requirements and how to manage side-effects

Format: 

This course will consist of pre-course reading and activities. The session will be a facilitated session with active discussion of scenarios with your colleagues.
 
Pre-course preparation:

A pre-workshop booklet will be made available to you approximately two weeks prior to the event. This will require completion and provide material for discussion and review at the event.
