Ers y pandemig, mae lefelau haint anadlol acíwt wedi cynyddu. Yn ogystal, roedd y nifer o achosion Streptococws Grŵp A (GAS) yn 22/23 wedi arwain at gynnydd enfawr yn y defnydd o wrthfiotigau.
Wrth i ni ddechrau cyfnod prysur arall y gaeaf, bydd gweithwyr proffesiynol gofal iechyd sy’n gweithio mewn lleoliadau sylfaenol a chymunedol yn bendant yn dod ar draws llawer o gleifion â symptomau heintiau anadlol acíwt, lle mae peswch a dolur gwddf ymhlith y symptomau mwyaf cyffredin.
Er bod rhai sefyllfaoedd yn gofyn am wrthfiotigau a/neu atgyfeiriadau a thriniaethau mwy brys, mae’r rhan fwyaf o beswch a dolur gwddf yn cael eu hachosi gan firysau. Dylid defnyddio gwrthfiotigau ond i drin heintiau a achosir gan facteria, nid firysau.
Felly, sut y gall gweithwyr proffesiynol gofal iechyd sicrhau asesiad a rheolaeth ddiogel a phriodol o gleifion sydd â symptomau sy’n gysylltiedig â heintiau anadlol acíwt?

Overview
Since the pandemic, the levels of acute respiratory infection have increased. In addition, Group A Streptococcus (GAS) outbreaks in 22/23 resulted in a huge increase in antibiotic use.
As we enter another busy winter period, healthcare professionals working in primary and community settings will undoubtedly encounter many patients presenting with symptoms of acute respiratory infections, with coughs and sore throat being the most common.
Although some situations require antibiotics and/or more urgent referral and treatment, most coughs and sore throats are caused by viruses. Antibiotics should only be used to treat infections caused by bacteria, not viruses.
Therefore, how can healthcare professionals ensure safe and appropriate assessment and management of patients presenting with symptoms associated with acute respiratory infections?
